GM, BFF: Beating Web3 burnout

💌 Welcome to GM, BFF, a newsletter hitting your inbox every week with key insights from Web3, crypto, our community and beyond. Have ideas of what you want to see in this send next week? Email us at hello@mybff.com

It’s officially December, a time of year when many of us start feeling the signs of burnout. We juggle all the things: ambitious holiday travel schedules, glitzy social events and a heaping dose of family time — all while trying to tie up year-end responsibilities at work.

Then there’s the work itself: Its many highs, its many lows. Lots of us attended Art Basel Miami this weekend — an absolute high worth every second of lost sleep. But of course, we can’t pretend like we didn’t see the FTX drama broadcasting from airport TVs, adding a tinge of bitterness to the sweet, sweet bliss of seeing colleagues and friends IRL.

Web3 represents a new era of values in tech. However, it’s not immune to the sector’s notorious grind culture. In fact, it's a volatile industry full of rapidly scaling startups. Some will make it; others won't. This week, BFF contributor Carlee Lloyd tackles the topic of burnout — a timely and important reminder for all of us to take care of ourselves in the last month of the year (and always) as we float on the fumes of WAGMI (Crypto Twitter slang for “We’re all gonna make it!”).

In the article, Lloyd speaks to three knowledgeable experts about Web3 burnout. We learn a few important tips for setting boundaries and making Web3 feel more like the cozy, inspiring place we know it can be. We also look at the systemic issues contributing to burnout across the industry, which disproportionately affect — you guessed it — women and non-binary builders.
